I absolutely adored The Friday Night Knitting Club. I mean, who didn't? I'm anxiously awaiting the movie that they're supposedly making.
So many times when an author has a huge success for their first novel, their second one is ... shall we say ... not quite the same.
And, unfortunately, that's the case with Comfort Food as well.
Don't get me wrong, I think the book is absolutely wonderful. I just thought that the writing and the story were not as fully developed as The Friday Night Knitting Club.
Gus is a lovable character, and the story is good. It just wasn't as good as I expected. Which is really unfortunate. I know that I shouldn't judge one story by another, but it's hard not to.
So, I think either my expectations were too high, or Kate Jacobs was in a bit of a hurry to get this book off to the publisher.
I just think that it could have used a little more time developing.
