Most of you already know by now that I really enjoy Philippa Gregory's books about the Tudor reign in England. I think she manages to capture those around and related to King Henry VIII very well. I also like that each book is written from a different person's perspective.
This one is about young queen Elizabeth during the early part of her reign. And, it certainly puts Elizabeth I into a different light.
To be honest, I read this book back in January / February, and I don't really remember a lot of the nuances that I could talk about if I'd reviewed it right away. I need to get better about that.
I do remember that I liked it, but it isn't my favorite in Gregory's series, but it also isn't my least favorite. I really enjoyed reading it because it cast Elisabeth is a bit of a less golden light than I was used to. For me, it finally showed that while she was a great ruler, and did some pretty wonderful things, she also did some pretty dreadful things as well.
