The Heartbreak Kid
The Heartbreak Kid

2007

Starring: Ben Stiller

Rating: 3.5

"The Heartbreak Kid" reminds me a lot of "There's Something about Mary". That is probably because both "The Heartbreak Kid" and "There's Something about Mary" are both written by the same people. So, if you enjoyed "There's Something about Mary", you'll probably like "The Heartbreak Kid" as well.

"The Heartbreak Kid" is a funny movie, and I did enjoy it. But I really like the silly comedies that tend to be Ben Stiller's specialty. His acting in this movie is good. But it's really Malin Akerman who steals the show.

I would definitely recommend that you watch "The Heartbreak Kid" if you're in the mood for just some good laughs and humor that will (hopefully) never happen, but is still very funny.

Eddie is forty, owns a sporting-goods store, and is still single. After watching his ex-fiancée walk down the aisle, he meets Lila, an environmental researcher, who seems too good to be true. Pressured by his father and best friend, Eddie pops the question and marries Lila after only 6 weeks. However, as he almost instantly discovers, his new bride is a nightmare with more baggage than he can handle. She's immature, foolish, a monster in bed, owes a tremendous amount of money to various sources, and as it turns out, is only a volunteer and doesn't actually have a job. While on their honeymoon in Cabo, Eddie meets Miranda, a down-to-earth lacrosse coach who is visiting with her family. Sparks fly, and Eddie falls for her. Now comes the tricky part of breaking off his marriage to crazy Lila, all while keeping the truth from Miranda about why he's in Cabo in the first place... Plot summary Written by Lex

I agree with your review but have to add that I'm a real big music fan and after I got the dvd, I paused it during the credits just to find out the name of the band that played during the wedding scene. I found out the band is called Kanekoa. I then went to www.kanekoa.com to find out more about them. That website took me to their MySpace page and let me tell you... these boys can rock out bigtime. Come to find out they are from Maui, Hawaii and those aren't guitars we were hearing during the wedding scene. They were ukuleles, that's right ukuleles. I never ever thought I'd hear ukuleles played like that. So I went to iTunes and searched Kanekoa and found out they have a record called "under The Coconut Sky" and I downloaded it and come to find it's the best freakin record I've bought in like 15 years or something. Crazy. How did these Farrelly Brothers find this band from Hawaii. Even crazier is - I heard the same song from the movie on the radio yesterday. It's called, "Way Down" and it sounded amazing on the radio. I think I am going to find Kanekoa on YouTube today.

in the Heartbreak Kid, their case for making Stiller's first wife into an annoying monster, etc. was totally un-convincing... it made him look all the more like a lame-o
