Pete's Pizza Joint restaurant review

Just a few blocks from the most famous sites in Philadelphia, you'll find the city's best pizza. Pete's Pizza Joint is a tiny shop, but it's big on taste. We found it thanks to a local who recommended it to us. We asked where we could get the best Phili-cheesesteak sandwiches in town. We were directed to Pete's. The sandwiches were so good that we went back the next day for more. While we were there, we also decided to try the pizza. Now, I'll be honest here. Pete's pizza was the best pizza I think I've ever tasted. It was so good in fact, that we made a special trip to Philadelphia when we were next out to the East Cost area.

If you're ever in Philadelphia, go to Pete's. While it doesn't have the best atmosphere, it has great food, and great prices. Heck, if you're ever in Washington DC, go to Philadelphia for pizza. Tell Pete that Carrie and Jonathan sent you.

Houlihan's restaurant review

Houlihan's is located in the area known as Station Square in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They have a great menu full of lots of vegetarian options as well as meat, chicken, and fish. Everyone can find something to love at Houlihan's. If you bring the kids there are plenty of kids options as well. Be sure to try their almond crusted brie appetizer. It's fantastic. They even offer a 32 ounce Long Island Iced Tea for around $6.

We went with a group of 6 of us, and we didn't have to wait long for food at all. We probably waited about 20 minutes. The waitress was awesome, and always prompt with everything, including refilling water.

If you find yourself in the Station Square area of Pittsburgh, pop on in to Houlihan's. Your stomach will thank you.

Red Star Tavern Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania restaurant review

We visited Red Star Tavern for a late lunch on a Friday. We were there at two o'clock. The restaurant / tavern was not full, so we thought that our 45 minute time frame would not be a problem. We ordered two salads and water. The water came fairly soon, but our salads were another story.

After we waited for 30 minutes, the waitress came by and said that the food would be out very soon. We reminded her that we were on a time constraint. After another 30 minutes, the waitress came by again. She said that the food would be out in 5 minutes. 15 minutes later, we told her we had to leave, and that we were already late. She came back by and said that they were just putting together our salads and "they take 2 seconds to make". We decided to wait and take our salads to go. But, when they still weren't out after 15 minutes, we asked to talk to a manager. By this point, we had waited for 1.5 hours for salads.

When talking to the manager, he did not apologize. He said "I just don't know what to tell you." We eventually got our salads comped, but we were so late for our meeting, that we could not longer go.

As far as the food goes, those salads were definitely not worth waiting 90 minutes. We ordered two different salads, but received almost identical salads. And, some of the toppings listed were not on the salads (avocado, corn salsa, and salad dressing).

I also got up to see if they were really busy and I just couldn't see the people. I wanted there to at least be a reason why our food took so long. I counted a total of 25 people in the restaurant. There is no reason that 2 salads should have taken that long.

We talked with some people that night who said that they got up and left after waiting an hour for their food. Other people told us that the night before was the same story.

I really suggest that you avoid eating at Red Star Tavern. I also recommend that you avoid eating at Bar Louie. The two are one restaurant with one kitchen, but two names.

If you have had a better (or similar) experience at Red Star Tavern or Bar Louie in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, please leave a comment and let us know.
