Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice
A & E Mini-series
Starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle
Review
This is by far the best adaptation I’ve ever seen of Jane Austen’s Pride
and Prejudice. Although it is a bit long, five hours to be exact, it
follows the story line almost exactly. Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth
display exceptional portrayal of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy
respectively. Director Simon Langton really put a tremendous amount of
effort into the film to make it appear authentic to the story and to the
time. And the casting couldn’t be more perfect. It is not easy to take one
of the most beloved books of all time and turn it into film, but Langton
along with Firth and Ehle manage to do just that.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is a story that can relate to girls of
all ages and of all times. And, when brought to life through film, all
imagination is also captured almost exactly.
In all honesty, the only draw back from this version of the film is the
length. But, even that can be broken down into A & E ‘s original time
format: six viewings of 50 minutes each. If you do not have five hours to
watch Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in one sitting, you could easily
watch it broken down.
