The reason that I read "A Caress of Twilight" in the first place is because a month ago, I read "A Kiss of Shadows" and absolutely loved it. I got hooked.
Unfortunately, this sequel didn't live up to the first one.
That does not mean that I didn't enjoy it; it just means that I thought it could have been better.
The story wasn't quite as grasping as the first one. I didn't feel as if I could relate to the characters in this one.
The first one spent a lot of time on character development, which is probably why I liked it better. In "A Caress of Twilight" it seemed like nothing in particular was the focus.
It felt like either Hamilton was trying to get from one book to another, or just didn't really care about the second book because she hooked her audience with the first book.
Also, the sex in "A Caress of Twilight" is much more vulgar and unnecessary. At least in "A Kiss of Shadows" I could pretend that it was relevant to the story.
