I caught a showing of "The Skeleton Key" on TV while in Ecuador. I came in exactly half way through the movie.
Funnily enough, I did not miss anything. About then one of the main characters was explaining the story, therefore catching me up on the whole first half.
Obviously, since I did not see it, I do not know if it is necessary to see. But, I think I managed ok without having seen the beginning. (Which, in case you don't know me, is really saying something since I hate to miss the beginning of movies.)
The story line of "The Skeleton Key" is nothing spectacular. There's this old house full of spooky happenings. A woman is there caring for a man who has had a stroke. Somewhere along the line, she realizes that voodoo has more than a history; it has a life.
The reason that I'm rating it high, is because I'm still thinking about the movie - especially the ending, which I will let you discover for yourself.
There are definitely parts of the movie where I was glad to have someone's hand to hold. And other parts that were a bit too, violent in a way, for my taste.
However, if a movie can make me think for about it for more than a few days, it was probably a good one.
