Starring: Ellen Page, Drew Barrymore, and Juliette Lewis
Not the most stunning achievements in cinematic history, but also not a bad start for Drew Barrymore's directing debut.
"Whip It" is definitely a "coming of age" tale. This time it's about a young woman named Bliss (Page) whose mother wants her to be a beauty queen and travel across Texas for pageants. Her father wishes he had a son so he could watch sports all day. And, Bliss, well, she wants to compete in roller derby.
That's right. Roller derby is back. And it's brutal. Bliss lies to her parents, her friends, and her boss. But, she manages to make the roller derby team.
As with all coming of age tales, eventually everyone finds out, and it all works out in the end.
So, overall, it was ok. Nothing stunning or must-see about it. But, it was a fun diversion for a night.
