"I, Lorelei" is about Lorelei. Lorelei is eleven years old. When her favorite pet, her cat Mud, dies, she decides to write a journal to him everyday. This way, Mud will know all about her life and how she becomes a famous actress, or a famous chef, or ...
The whole story is told from Lorelei's perspective. The idea was to feel as if you are actually reading an eleven year olds journal. However, I feel that Smith fell short on that aspect. (This could be because I read this book immediately after When We were Romans. When We were Romans was really written in the style of a child, it came complete with spelling mistakes and mistaken word definitions whereas I, Lorelei read as if an adult wrote it in the voice of a child.)
You probably already know Yeardley Smith, even if you don't think you do. Smith is the voice of Lisa on The Simpsons. So, odds are, you've heard her voice before.
While I thought that reading I, Lorelei was fun, I also felt that it could have been better. It's not a book I can whole-heartedly recommend as a must read. But, it is one that I can say read if you want read rather than watching that new action movie your husband is dying to see. You could pretty easily finish it in a few hours.
