I think I was expecting too much from "Marley and Me". Not that I thought it was bad, but that I thought it could have been better. That having been said, I did read 8 amazing books before this one, so I think I got in the habit of expecting all books to be absolutely fabulous.
I thought that "Marley and Me" was supposed to be about life with Marley, the dog. But, it was more like how John Grogan's life was during the time he had Marley. I would have liked to hear more Marley stories, rather than a few snippets here and there.
I'm glad I read it. There are parts of it that were laugh-out-loud funny, but none that made me laugh until I cried. And, it certainly made me remember a few of the reasons why I have yet to own a dog (or any pet) as an adult.
I do really enjoy Grogan's writing style. He writes as if he's talking to you. I'd be interested in reading more of his works, and maybe checking out his column here and there.
I recommend Marley and Me for all dog owners, or people who are thinking about getting a dog. But, I don't know that it's a book I can recommend that you read just because it's that good.
