Alfie
2004
Starring: Jude Law, Marisa Tomei, and Susan Sarandon
Rating: 3.5
This production of Alfie is a remake of the 1966 Alfie production, both of which are based on the play Alfie by Bill Naughton.
I have not read the play, but it appears to me as though Alfie is a movie several women would like to see. Alfie tells the story of a womanizer. (Very convincingly played by Jude Law.) Alfie tells the story of Alfie's life. His conquests, goals, pitfalls, and what-have-you. The movie was good. It wasn't fantastic. All the characters were believable (kudos to the actors - jobs well done).
I particularly liked the imagry that was found throughout the film, and the use of billboards. I also liked how there seemed to be a blue filter on some of the filming when Alfie was feeling a bit down, and how the colors changed to reflect his moods and hopes.
I would definitely watch this movie, if for no other reason than to notice all the fun filming techniques. Alfie is a good movie, not one that I'll watch repeatedly, but one worth seeing.
