No Reservations
No Reservations
2007
Starring: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart
Rating: 2.5
Ok, I'm a little biased. I have already seen "Mostly Martha" (the German film No Reservations is based on). I didn't really care for that one, and I was hoping when they remade the movie here in the States that they would fix what I thought was wrong with Mostly Martha. But they didn't.
In both movies, the characters don't develop. The main character Kate (and Martha), are so static that it's almost painful to watch them. I think that the plot is supposed to involve having her evolve into a more rounded person, but that just doesn't happen. The character of Zoe has nothing new to offer the audience from the thousands of similar characters that have been portrayed over the years. In fact, Zoe almost comes across as fake.
Neither Mostly Martha nor No Reservations are necessarily bad movies. I just think they could have been better with a bit more character development and growth. No Reservations is not released on DVD yet, but you can check out Mostly Martha here.
