Until recently, I was not familiar with Elizabeth Gaskell. I'm quite pleased that I was finally introduced to her works. After seeing "North and South" I will definitely be reading some of her novels.

North and South follows the story of the Hale family. After leaving their home, and their profession, they move to the north of England to begin a new life. In typical 19th century fashion, Miss Hale meets a man whom she is not particularly thrilled with in the beginning, but the two are thrown together in numerous demanding situations.

A four part series on the BBC, North and South is a bit long, and slow at times, but for anyone who enjoys Jane Austen and or 19th century British lit, it is a must see.
