You know when something is exceptionally good you want to capitalize on it? Like brownies or no-bake cookies. If they're really good, you want to eat them until your stomach explodes... OK bad analogy.
Anyway, "The Friday Night Knitting Club" was a fabulous book. I loved it. The characters were all well defined and perfectly dynamic, and the story line was a bit well-known, but built in a new way. Well, Kate Jacobs realized that she had a whole slew of people who would read another book with the same familiar characters. So, she wrote "Knit Two".
Now, I'm not saying that sequels are bad or shouldn't be written. But, I am saying that they should be well thought out and planned, and at least make an attempt to be as good as the first. Jacobs fell short with this one.
The characters were there, but definitely flat this time around. The story line made an appearance, but didn't jive. I just thought the book was unexciting and monotonous. That's not to say I didn't like it. And, I probably wouldn't be as harsh on it if I didn't adore the first version.
