Something Borrowed
by: Emily Griffin
I needed a light and easy read when I read this (living in less than ideal conditions in remote Central America). And it definitely filled that desire for me. Actually, I even enjoyed it, quite a bit surprisingly.
I did not, however, enjoy the character of Darcy. Ugh...how could Rachel have stayed friends with someone who was so much of a "taker" for that long? I didn't understand their friendship dynamic. I guess neither did they.
Reading "Something Borrowed" made me think too. I mean, at what point would you justify sleeping with your best friend's fiancé? Would that ever be weird (I mean, especially knowing that the two of them have slept together too many times to count over the 7 years of their relationship)?? That part kind of grossed me out a bit actually. I think that's a line I just wouldn't be able to cross even if I ever wanted to! Major ick factor.
It's interesting to really like a character and really dislike that character at the same time. I really liked Rachel's character, but I didn't like the way she lied to her best friend (and slept with her fiancé).
I guess when I put things like that, it's difficult to imagine why I enjoyed the book. But I did. The writing kept me interested, and I wanted to know what would happen with the characters and how everything would play out.
It's not a book everyone should read. But, if you're in the mood for a beach or an airplane read, "Something Borrowed" could be for you.
