I listened to the audio version of "The Red Tent", and I have to say, that it was great! I love it when an audio is good, and this one was fantastic.
I knew nothing about the book going into it, so it was a bit of a surprise to me that it dealt with the women in Jacob's family (in the Old Testament). I was reading Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff Christ's Childhood Pal at the time, and it was interesting hearing the counter balance between the story of the Old Testament, and the one that focused on the New.
"The Red Tent" is a fascinating story of the many wives of Jacob and the only daughter between them. It's a story about the strength of women. I highly recommend it if you are a woman, or if you know one. (So, yeah, to anyone out there.)
Why then did I rate it a 3? Because I was never hooked on it. I never sat in my car for longer than I had to just because I was so engrossed in the book that I couldn't bear to stop reading (listening). The story is good, and I learned a lot from reading it, I just thought that it could have been a bit better. I don't have any specific suggestions, since I listened to this way back in August, and I'm just now writing the review... Jeez I'm behind.
Someone told me that they had a really hard time with the book because of all the names in it, and that I should not worry about who was who, and what happened to whom, or even try to keep the names straight because it really didn't matter. I, however, did not have an issue with all the names or the characters. I thought that they were described well enough for me to keep up.
