I was not one of us "eighties babies" who grew up watching Transformers on tv. I, however, did always want a Transformer figurine because I thought they were cool. So, this was my first exposure to 2D Transformers. I thought the movie was awesome. They did such a good job of making it seem real. There were so many places when the movie could have been cartoon-y, but it wasn't. The visual effects were fantastic! Watching the bots turn from jet to robot to jet again was amazing. Transformers probably isn't Oscar material, but it is definitely a movie to check out when you want to be entertained, and perhaps reminded a bit about your childhood.
